I was getting really frustrated trying to figure out how to make a public folder TO use for the sound files, and would have given up if you hadn't given us that link! Thank you so much for the help, it made all the difference I needed!!!

Can you please contact us directly via our soundjay website, we need to talk to you.
Some of your users are directly linking to our sound files which is not allowed. We had to block them and rename all the files.

Yep , no problem.
I'm just passing through but will get in touch over the weekend. Hot linking is not something I encourage, for obvious reasons.

IMPORTANT

Sound Jay is an excellent site to get your shout box sounds from. It is a free service, so please do not abuse it and hot-link to their files. It has been brought to my attention that they are receiving 30 hits per minute because people are hotlinking. Remember that if you hot-link, it is not just you, but everyone of your members/guests that downloads the file.
I have been told that SJ will be changing the file locations to stop this happening and if it continues then you may be blocked from the site completely.
Just as this plugin is free, the sounds are supplied free. Download the sounds to your computer and then host them somewhere (such as dropbox).

This is great! Got us a lot of fun. We used to ignore the shoutbox, but now everyone is playing with it XD

And ... may I ask for a little extension? Could you make it play randomly from a pre-defined list of sounds? I know this is a silly request but it could be really interesting. For example, we could stock a set of lines from our favorite character and guess what he will say for the next shout. The anticipation itself would be very enjoyable. Would you please consider it?

Your request is possible but I'm taking a break until February as other things have taken over. I'll take a look when I get back to doing some coding.

And I apologize in advance, I have gone through all of the posts in the thread, but haven't seen anything that might help.

First, let me say that I don't see a Hide button on the plug-in I downloaded. Is it supposed to be there?

My real issue is that I can't hear any sound when I use my iPad to Shout. Neither can my members. I checked my Settings on my iPad and I don't seem to have anything crazy set. I moved the plug-in to the top of my list just in case something was interfering but that didn't seem to do anything.

This is only the second question I've asked, so I don't know what info you might need to check this out. I can tell you that I'm on iOS 7.0.4...

The 'Hide' button is from a different plugin, so you won't see that button.
Can you give me a URL to your forum?

 I don't have an 'Ianything'  but maybe someone else that has can confirm or not if the plugin is working for Ithings on their forum (or not).

I appreciate you taking the time to check this. I used a .wav file from Soundjay and it is in my Public folder at Dropbox. The .mp3 file is from the same and also in the same location, and it works correctly.

I'll have to get on a PC with Safari ( or download it myself when I get a chance ). It sounds like a bug with Safari has crept in there, as it is working in other browsers. I'll see what I can do and let you know...

Could you try changing the settings in the plugin to just the sound check box , and not the slider, and let me know if it works with just the checkbox.

Aaah. When I switch to On/Off it does not show up on the Shoutbox on the iPad using Safari. It does show up in IE.

Improvements that may be made at your leisure [disclaimer: I don't know how the sound thing is triggered at the moment]:

1) Allow changing of the 'delete' sound to something other than the default [or nothing]?
2) Make a special sound for when a user is highlighted?

Hi,
I just got round to looking at this plugin.
I might take away the sound from the delete when I do the next update. It depends if anyone asks for it. I don't really like having different versions of the same plugin.
The 'special sound' can't be done (or would be very very difficult) due to the way the plugin is written.
