VS Admin , perhaps the viewing of email addresses can be specific ONLY to the owner of the proboard. I know of way too many instances where other members who have been given admin privileges become disgruntled and do stupid things to boards. Having the email addresses viewable only by the actual owner of the board would be a good compromise. Yes, the owner would be responsible for that part of the moderating, but by starting up their own forum they have taken on a certain level of responsibility in the first place.

just having admin being the only one to see the email address is a good idea as I like it so that some members cannot find that there are members on site which are not appreciated because of past dislikes.

Well done ProBoards for listening to your members.
Agree that they should be visible to Admins only

My feelings are that the staff generally should have this option as a Main admin cannot always be around 24/7, they may be taken ill, have an accident, be in a situation that they cannot connect with Internet or bereavement even. I agree that members with admin privileges could become a little disgruntled and the choice of good staff is imperative, there again how many times have I read on Support of a Main admin just disappearing, leaving good members in the lurch.
At the end of the day there is no 100% level of responsibility, either as an Main admin or a member of the staff. If a Main admin trusts the staff then he/she should be in the position to give them the option to see emails.

RF i have moderator's that just moderate nothing more thats all i want them to do. i would like to see both of our points solved... if the main admin trust's a staff member to see emails its at the admins risk... and it should be choice in the Group Settings For example: Group Permissions : Moderators Staff Member?: yes[X] no [ ] Can View Members Email Address's?: yes[ ] no[X] it should be up to the admin to let other staff member groups have the access to see emails... i'm sure this would also stop people whining in the future.... i think this is a very good point for proboards and should consider it.... We should also consider holding our horses on this one... as we don't know what features they have actually planned and im sure they are going to make no mistakes as it is a very delicate subject due to privacy!

More proof that Proboards actually LISTENS to their users, THANK YOU (though honestly I wasn't fussed about this one way or the other)

Will there be an email/notification sent to those individuals that have already upgraded to the v5 log in? I most likely would have chosen to use an alternate email address knowing it would be visiblle to general forum staff, as others may have. Like ~Zoey~, Some sort of notification would be nice. People upgraded and choose their email addresses with the knowledge that no one could see them in V5 (and it hasn't caused us any problems at all. I love the new email direct from forum feature). If I hadn't been casually browsing Support while waiting for a colleague, I'd not have found out about this change :s My members certainly won't be casually browsing Support. (However I will now go and tell them - so they can follow Ryan Roos's instrctions if they want) I just want to check that this will be restricted to only membergroups with the staff option set to 'yes' and not just anyone set as a moderator for a specific board? Thanks

Thanks My understanding is that it will be like the Activity Setting in your Privacy tab of Edit Profile. There will be four options and you choose what you want that option to be for your own profile. Email Visibility- Share with Everyone
- Share with Registered Users
- Share with Friends and Staff
- Share with Staff only
When implemented, existing email addresses will be set to Staff only. Then people can turn it down and open it up to more people if they wish. As for notifying people I have no say in that matter. That is entirely up to VS Admin and he would need to post here with his response to that. As I said in my previous post, I don't think it's something we would do, though I completely understand your concern. I hope this has shed a little light on the email situation.

Thanks Ryan Roos, I just want to check that staff is what I understand by staff. Groups with 'staff' set to 'yes' in the membergroups area, and not moderators as it seems to be a concern of some people in this thread?

I'm thankful to proboards for doing this again. It certainly makes it easier when approving accounts. I liked it in V4 when we could also see the IP address of a potential member. Helped quite a bit when weeding out the spammers.
