Forum URL: southernwaoutdoors.com.auHi Support, I'm sorry to raise this again, but I can't find my original thread about this, despite an exhaustive search. The issue has been raised by my moderator and I would like to give an explanation. FUNCTION - New Posts icon displayed when people add one or new posts to a board. BEHAVIOR - Will display the first time a member visits the forum and a new post has been added since they last visited. BUT, if there is more than one new post and the member accesses one of them, then navigates back to the forum home (main) page, the New Posts icon is no longer displayed. By all means post the link to the original thread for my "re-digestion"

Hey Colin Molloy, I wasn't able to find another thread of yours where you mention this, I'm afraid. Is this a feature request?

Hi David Clark - see post below - Original Post is the thread I previously referred to - RedBassett agreed with me at the time and said I could try a feature request but didn't (it appears) hold much hope. I would love this to be a feature request and adopted David - I know Proboards offers so many excellent functions that other BB boards do not provide and it's wonderful, but this feature is available in a lot of other forums and very desired by my members.

I can add the Feature Request label to this one, Colin Molloy, but what I can't guarantee is that our devs will implement it anytime soon. With the consideration that the functions that determine whether a board has been read or not are coded pretty deeply into the software, I don't know that they're at liberty to modify that behavior at this time.

Thank you David - that would be greatly appreciated - nothing ventured - nothing gained. Or alternatively have a New Posts flag ? That would work at the post level - not the board level ?

the way I have always interpreted it, is the indicator is letting you know there have been new posts since the last time you checked in that board. not that there are UNREAD threads.. just there was some new activity since you last were in there. ince you go into a board, you now see all the unread threads and have been made aware of what is new. if you leave, the flag clears because its all info you already know. the flag should have been called "new activity" instead of "new posts" to make the distinction more clear...

Hi Wormopolis Generally I concur, I guess the assessment of this could become quite nomenclatively semantic - in some cases they will be new posts - in other cases they are new activity on an existing post. As I said to my Mod, what you can do is open a board that has a new post flag on it and open any new thread (new or updated) in a separate tab within the browser session and repeat this, then move to the next board that has a new post flag against it. I'm a website designer, so I digest browsers for breakfast (got to improve my diet! ) and find that concept and approach simple - unfortunately not every member sees that as a comfortable approach.
