ShoutBox Tags! v1.0.0

I made this thing that can be found at this link here: www.proboards.com/library/plugins/item/1245

Note that this plugin uses your browsers local storage to save information about the user so clearing your cookies/cache will notify you again of your previous tags. This should work out-of-the-box so go crazy and try to break every aspect of it because I'm counting on you guys to be bug testers.

The functionality is pretty straightforward. You tag someone with an @ and they should be notified in a pop up window supplied by their browser and by browser I mean anything that is not Internet Explorer. Guests can tag too though you can't tag guests.

I finished this last year and foolishly thought I had submitted it but alas I didn't and now we're here!

I have tested your question out and the answer, sadly, is no. It does not work for regular threads / posts. This plugin only works in the shoutbox. Though, for your concern about notifications when somebody tags you in a thread or in a post, proboards already gives you a notification if somebody tags you -- if not, please go to the following:

My Profile > Edit Profile > Notifications > After this, scroll down and check the following box:


After checking the box, scroll down and save your settings. It should now notify you whenever somebody tags you in a post. If this is still not working, be sure to notify a proboards support admin!

Nah. But it would be awesome to get a pop up when that happens -- honestly it wouldn't be too much of a stretch, I think. However that would be something that could be more easily implemented directly into the software rather than a plugin. I say easily but don't take my word for it since I'm a support person and not a mighty dev.

Ulises ~ our shoutbox was rarely used and I disabled it a week or so ago.

I think this was sorely needed because without notifications, if the shoutbox is in a Peekaboo Sidebar like ours, you just never knew when someone was posting unless you remembered to click the tab each and every time you were on our board.

And no one really remembered to ~ not even me!

This is a most necessary feature since we rely on notifications for everything!

I've asked about tagging and notifications for the shoutbox a few times around here, Ulises , and finally just gave up. 

It really is awesome that you did this. Had you submitted it when you first thought you did, you might have saved ours!

And yes, a sound would be a great addition.

ProBoards has so many great notification choices but this one was sorely lacking.
