his name is larry the great ? surely that means something, and these guys have sites that get millions of hits a minute, all they do is put your link on theirs and wait for 2 months for the results.500 x $5 adds up to more than a fed wage.
thats what he said anyways.
so im going to have to pick the good from the bad and maybe choose someone else idk.
No site that anyone on a site like controls has millions of 'hits' a minute. What do they define as a hit? Technically a 'hit' is when a page is loaded - so I can hit refresh on your site 1000 times and that gives you a thousand hits...it doesn't mean anything in real terms. If he's sold you that then you've fallen hook, line and sinker. Has he discussed your aims? your demographic? Has he provided a long-term strategy combining the many different facets of SEO? I doubt it. He's probably going to stick your site in a load of directories (which is dodgy in SEO terms and i doubt will provide any real, proper traffic to your site) and claim that you're getting exposure.
What people on this thread have said (including Kami, though I hate to admit it) is all correct - having worked with and in the SEO world for a while success with your site in search engines doesn't happen overnight, unless you are willing to set aside an Adwords budget or invest in months and months of SEO work with an agency (who probably won't be able to guarantee you any tangible progress for the first 4-5 months), then you're left with time and patience.
Whilst we're at it, what is your content strategy for promoting your website? No, I don't mean spamming your Twitter accounts several times an hour, I mean offering real and valuable expert content to prove to people that you aren't a clueless child and are in fact someone who can genuinely help them with their aim/query/question etc. Google takes content FAR more seriously than any meta information and link building. Devise a plan. Stick to it. Offer something to your visitors/followers. No-one cares how many followers you have (it isn't a Key Performance Indicator to anyone with any common sense) but how you engage with your followers and how that reflects in likes, replies, retweets etc. If you're offering content and services that set you aside from the competition, they'll come. If not then they won't.
We haven't even gone into the forum/site design and layout - has this been tweaked and improved upon based on feedback? And no, I don't care if you like it - you're not the one that's going to be looking at it and engaging in it, particularly if you're offering promotion. People will be turned away from a terrible looking site, it's a fact. It doesn't have to be a work of art, but be prepared to take the criticism and see feedback you'd rather not read. Make some compromises. Try things a few times over. Trial and error is pretty much what SEO is - test, review, amend, test again, repeat ad infinitum.
If you're going to take this on yourself, and i mean properly, then be prepared for it to take a LONG time, for you to not see immediate results, for you to be disheartened. That's life, that's the soul destroying world of marketing, whether it be online or offline. If you're not willing to put the effort and the time in then it won't succeed.
