Photobucket Oh No (New TOS)

The email I received from Photobucket stated my images were safe but I'd lost third party sharing.

How interesting that you received an email. I checked both my inbox and spam folders for the email my photobucket is attached to and found nothing.

If emails were sent out then my estimation of them as a company goes up a fraction.

An email after the fact, doesn't get a thumbs up from me.

The right thing would be to grandfather in existing members and their images. Then, if we add photos after being made aware of the ToS change, we'd be agreeing to that new ToS by continuing to use the service.

That would get my kudos and thumbs-up.

Mm hence only a fraction. Many companies send out alerts going "our terms of use have been updated" or something after the fact, so I do not find it to be an unusual route (if emails were in fact sent. I double checked my entire account and I've got i think). However this is less of a change in TOS (I mean it is, but effectively not) and more a change in service they're masking under a new TOS. The up in estimation is more akin to going from "this is shady and suspicious i wonder what they're up to", to "well they at least did bare minimum to not be completely shady".

Im not giving out kudos or a thumbs up to a company who makes it impossible to use their site even to browse my own photos, in any case.

I agree after the fact is still mean, very mean!

I remember having a box pop up on Photobucket a few weeks ago asking me did I use my account for sharing or storage.... now I know why.


My email contained the following -

Hm I wonder if that's it -- my photobucket account, while they may be displaying photos on ancient sites, is primarily used for storage and i seriously doubt it's seen much, if any, bandwidth use, and it seems as if your usage may have popped some automatic trigger to send a warning email. I wouldn't receive one then, since my usage doesn't go against the new terms.

Or so i hypothesise at any rate.

I'll give you an upside, @ritab .

When you load an image to Village.Photos, it literally takes an instant. I wait and wait, take a walk around the house, sit down and have a cup of coffee, and hopefully, by then, it's done loading on the bucket.

We're spoiled by how unobtrusive ProBoards' ads are, @ritab .


TBH, I've used 'the bucket" since they began. And I've not really had issues all of those years. It was a good ride ~ while it lasted.

Yup. I honestly had no complaints, @ritab .

I was checking out Google's album storage just now.

That's also an option.

You can upload to there, then click on the photo and it will open surrounded by a black background. In the top corner you'll see the share/edit/info/delete icons. Right click on the photo and select copy image address and then paste that URL in the image  box provided here.

We 'Bucket users are all in the same boat. So sharing options is a good thing. 

It's really affected the internet in a big, and negative, way.
