Read forum without logging in

Nobody can see posts on my forum unless they create an account and login.  This has caused people to NOT want to join because they want to know exactly what they are signing up for.

Is there a way to change this in the free version or is it available in the paid version? I can't find anything in settings in the free version.

I assume you want visitors to see the content but not participate unless they register, correct?

Disable the Guest Must Login splash screen (Admin > Settings > Forum Settings > Login & Registration tab).

Then go to Admin > Structure > Categories & Boards. For each of the boards, edit the board properties going to the Permissions tab:

For the first two permissions of view and access leave them set to "Everyone".
For the rest (create threads, reply to threads, create polls) set those to "Members & Staff"

Of course if there's a particular board (or boards) where you do not want member access or participation, you can adjust the permissions accordingly.
