Forum URL: TheBriarCode.co.ukHello, I'm trying to configure my rss feed and i'm trying to get it setup with zapier. I keep getting an error code Unable to pull new item in feeds Please reload the page. If the issue persists, troubleshoot error or contact Support. Error code: Error while retrieving: The app returned "Not Acceptable" and when I approach support this is what they had to say. Our logs indicate that the URL is returning a 406 error code, which is typically triggered when the server can't fulfill the client's request due to a problem with the requested resource, the request headers, or the server configuration.

theoverseer2117 - It's possible the IP's are being blocked on our end. Do you know what IPs are being used to access the RSS info?

Hello Scott,
I am reaching out regarding an issue with the RSS feed for my forum, The Briar: Question Everything, Seek Knowledge (located at http://thebriarcode.co.uk).
When validating the RSS feed (http://thebriarcode.co.uk/rss/public), I receive the following message:
"Self reference doesn't match document location."
It appears that the rel="self" link in the feed may not be correctly referencing the actual feed URL. The current atom:link tag in the feed seems incomplete or incorrect.
Could you please assist in ensuring that the rel="self" link in the feed correctly matches the feed's URL and that the necessary attributes (such as type="application/rss+xml") are included?
Thank you for your help!
Best regards, TheOverseer

Thank you for your help! Best regards, TheOverseer Sorry I'm not sure I know the answer to that. I use a website call feedwind as my aggregator, pointing to the URL forum.soxprospects.com/rss/public/board/4. Feedwind continues to work for my other RSS feeds like Google Blogger. I use validator.w3.org to check. The latest response is: This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations. line 1, column 238: Self reference doesn't match document location [help] ... rel="self" type="application/rss+xml" /><link>http://forum.soxprospects. ... This particular issue is caused by ProBoards not using the proper URL in their atom tag. The feed-generating code apparently wasn't updated to reflect the fact that PB now serves all files via HTTPS, which produces a feed URL that doesn't match the URL in the href attribute. "Self" cannot be used as a link relationship unless the URL being referenced matches the URL of the current feed, which the validator can plainly see that it doesn't.Also, you were using the wrong URL for the RSS feed. Forums only have one general feed, none that are board-specific. Adding /board/4 to the end of the URL will also give that error (but PB still needs to make their change too, as it affects all forums' feeds).. Check the syntax of Atom or RSS feeds I'm also finding that validators don't accept our forum's RSS URL as valid, but it still works on WordPress oddly enough.

Hello Overseer and every1,
I didn't realize you had already posted about this dilemma we are experiencing.
May I add If anyone knows of any social media site that will accept the feed straight away, we would be like Me Spook all ears!
Many thanks in advance.

Hi every1,
Ideally, we’d like the RSS feed connected to X, formerly known as Twitter, for clarity.

theoverseer2117 & February, ProBoards has always taken a negative view of bots and automated traffic. As such, services like IFTTT tend to be blocked. Traditional RSS readers are typically allowed of course, but only work if they will accept the feed as valid. If the reader doesn't like the current, mostly-valid feed format then you're probably SOL. ProBoards has made it clear in the past that they aren't currently fixing or updating anything that isn't critical to forum functionality. The RSS feed being wonky doesn't prevent you from doing anything on the forum itself, so it isn't likely to be deemed critical. It's a tertiary feature at best, really. I'm afraid the only solution that comes to mind would be a DIY reader that runs on your PC and posts to social media via API. But that requires a solid foundation of scripting languages to pull off and there is a long list of caveats that would need to be considered, including the possibility that ProBoards could consider this bot activity that violates their Terms of Service.

Hello Derek , An RSS feed is precisely that: a source of information designed to nourish something. In today's landscape, for it to be shared on social media platforms, it typically requires to be digested by a third-party app before being excreted on to those sites as info as to what's new on our forum. No place for Wonkyness, it's essential for promotion to compete against the big boys! February

theoverseer2117 - Not sure if this will work but you could give it a try. Go to Admin > Structure > Layout Templates > Forum Wrapper template. Right after the <head> tag add this: <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" href="https://thebriarcode.co.uk/rss/public" /> It does create a 2nd instance of the rss URL in the page source, but the https version will appear first. Might be enough for your feed to work?
