Well, I reiterate that "undisclosed" would be a good option.

What about for people who do not identify as male or female, due to certain biological or social situations, albeit rare ...

Actually, we are deciding that the admins will not see this option

I agree with the option for undisclosed. Like I said, some people just don't want that out there. And it can affect the way people view you, for example with roleplaying. There are petty people out there who might not want to roleplaying with a guy who's playing by a female, for example. It's the sad truth.

Its one thing if I voluntarily shared it, but I don't like the idea of being forced to share a non-essential piece of information merely because you think it sounds friendlier.
And really, I don't think it sounds friendlier at all. All you've done is swapped "posts by member" for "his/her last posts".

Also, i have also stated that ou will be able to hide this information, which is the same as 'undisclosed'. The only people that will know what you have selected is those with access to the database, and that's myself and 2 other people.

I can see why you might feel it necessary to make the change so it works with a his or her code but why introduce a code now, on the fly ? It also seems you're changing your minds according to peoples' views on here as to what can be seen by board admins. Is a gender specific code really necessary anyway, especially when most people have alter egos and lie on forums about age etc and even have genderless style names. How about you change your minds completely, remove the code and maybe introduce something more worthwhile

We are adding the option to hide it because people have requested it, but that is all.

Which, once again, forces people to side with male or female, even if they do not view themself as either male or female. I know that the odds of such an individual signing up on a forum is low, but we shouldn't force people into these two catagories. Even if you allow an option to "hide" this information, you are still forcing someone to choose, even if only you and two others ever see it. Granted, you might want to know the ratio of male to female users for all of your forums, but forcing these two choices on people seems a little harsh for the people who can't, won't, or have trouble associating with either male or female. If someone wants to be "undisclosed" or "unknown" or "not shared" or anything else that represents not making that decision, you can keep or use the non-gendered phrases for these messages you wish to use.
The main issue I have is forcing to identify with male or female. You are forcing that decision, when people might not be able to identify as one or the other.

Not to be coarse here, but that's not what they're asking. They are asking what gender, physically, you are. Even hermaphrodites are specifically one gender or another, though they may have both sets of anatomy. The question doesn't lie in what you see yourself as, or what you affiliate with most, but what you physically are - and there's no arguing that.

Ok, the option to hide the gender is now being uploaded to all servers. The option is in your modify profile. If you select 'hide', no one will be able to view your gender, aside from you of course Craig
