^^ I was surprised to see Ipswich doing so well so far - always liked them and hoped they'd do well and get out of the league (not out the trap-door though...). Hopefully you can be there or thereabouts if you can get players fit and new additions. Any new players coming in, esp in defence? We haven't started all that great - 2 defeats, 0 goals. Not totally surprising considering we have played the favourites for the title and the champions 2 years ago - but we've not been outplayed in either game, just we are more concerned about not conceding then not scoring. We've integrated a few new players; Mat Ryan in goal has had flashes of brilliance and then some terrible goalkeeping in each of the three matches he's appeared in (im counting our friendly v Athetico Madrid as well). Davy Propper, a Dutch international has been fairly anonymous so far but there's some promise. The main issue is we only have two fit strikers (Murray & Hemed) and both are slow and target men - no players to play off them and we appear to play 1 up front now, when playing 4-4-2 worked for us in the Championship. We've recently signed José Izquierdo for a club record fee, so hopefully he brings some width and attacking pace; Knockaert has been injured and is prone to spending time on the floor so that leaves us with Solly March, who is superb to watch but still raw. We need probably 1-2 strikers, poss a new Right Back (I love Bruno, but he's 37 now) and perhaps another centre-midfielder if Kayal is out for a long time and Propper turns out to be crap. We won't pull up any trees this season. 17th is the target for me. He said today that things are progressing with attempts to sign a central defender. I think that is currently our only main concern with regards to signing players. Perhaps a central midfielder as we are suffering with injuries there also, but from what i gather, those are more virus related than actual physical injuries, so the youths should be able to cover until they return. Brighton, i would put down to being like Ipswich when we last got promoted. A team which was improved progressively over a few seasons, and got promoted and managed ok with the same team. It only went tits up when two of our main players decided to leave, and a long term injury hit out goalscorer. Murray, from memory, has been promoted a couple of times before, scoring a lot of goals, but sold back to a championship club after either not playing, or not making an impact. Coincidence, or just not up to premier league football? Hoping you can stay up. Nice to see Brighton back in the top league.

It looks like a rough start for Brighton and Newcastle in the EPL yet Huddersfield have started off with a flyer, my Man United have started well but it's early days yet and as I always say "May next year is a long way off yet" so anything can happen.
League matches, cup runs, and Europe, Internationals then the cold weather setting in, injuries, I am glad football is back with us though.

It sucked a bit when the news broke, but i'm glad we found it a) so the boy can get treatment etc for it and b) we don't spunk 10m on a player and find he can't play. In other news, one of the worst 'tackles' you'll ever see saw Britos sent off against us today:

In other news, one of the worst 'tackles' you'll ever see saw Britos sent off against us today: Hell, that was a bad tackle, I saw that a red card was produced when I was keeping track of the score and now I know why should be a 5 match ban tops for me. Glad Brighton got a point as I do like the Brighton manager Houghton, just really need someone now to pop the goals in and at least survive in the EPL this season, don't want Brighton to go down. I think the first manager to get the old 'heave ho' this season is West Ham's Bilic, new stadium and he just can't get it right, even last season they just about survived but it's a long way to go yet until May next year.

Looks like Gayle might be headed back down to the Championship in the next couple of days, with Sky reporting Fulham have put a £15 million bid in. I feel for him because he was crucial in us getting promoted last season and he hasn't been given a proper chance in the PL so far this season. That being said the couple of appearances he's made he's been ineffective and his previous record in the PL is not exactly sterling. Definitely wishing him the best if he moves on and I'm sure Newcastle fans will remember him fondly.
Question is then, who do we get in his place? We definitely need another striker otherwise we'd be in the same situation as when we lost Andy Carroll at the end of a window. Realistically who's available for ~£15mn and is PL quality though? It's clear we wont have any funds for a striker except what we get from Gayle and we also need a number 10 and left back. Lucas Perez might be available for ~£13mn but apparently he wants to go back to Spain, although Arsenal refused a loan offer from Deportivo which is his prefered destination.
Get the feeling the last two days of the transfer window are either going to go very well or very poorly and set the tone for the rest of the season. Here's hoping it's the former...

Well we are having a nightmare window. Agree to sign Neto (midfielder) - fails medical with a knee injury Agree to sign Dwamena (striker) - fails medical after a heart condition is found Agree to sign Denswil (Defender) - move off after a team-mate's injury is worse than expected. The last one looks like the deal to take Connor Goldson on loan to Ipswich is off. Sorry Craig as he would have been superb at the back for you. Looks like we are getting Krul in on a season long loan though, not sure how good he is now D? He was mustard a few years back. We need a new striker by 11pm, Florin Andone has been quoted as a possible, but also Niasse who looks to be joining Palace. I usually love Deadline Day...but not with the stress of this season.

His injuries a few years ago seem to have really knocked him back and he didn't even get that much game time on loan out in the Netherlands. I wouldn't be too excited to be honest. Our keeper situation isn't that great and we're still looking to bring one in before the end of the window, so presumably not much is thought of Krul at the club anymore. Shame, because he looked like he could go on to big things before his injuries. Fans here loved him. Would be great to see him doing well again.

I'd be very surprised if we signed anyone now... still short of PL quality players in some starting positions. Wont be surprised to see Rafa go soon if this is the case.

We needed cover at RB, as good as Bruno is he's now 37 and Rosenior is still not quite as good as he was before his ankle fracture so fresh legs is a must. We've also been granted an extension til 1am so still one more deal to get in...rumoured to be a striker too.

Well. We needed a centre back, desperately because we don't have one. So we signed a right back. Awesome.
We will have to get someone in on a free transfer, surely. I know we have a couple of full backs that can play centre back if needed, but it's not a long term solution when our two main centre backs are out until at least november.
By all accounts we almost got the guy from you, Graham, so it is not like we didn't try at all, but then couldn't get any other option after that fell through.
Have to see what happens.
