Try and think of something orignal. If its an HP board, this will be hard, (this is what Enchant told me) but think of your favorite scene from the movies, and one that's very memorable. SO let's say you have the Cereberus Fluffy thing. You can use something related to that, e.g. The Trapdoor under Fluffy or something. Good luck!

Also RPFREAK, don't forget this post from Hoist: The thing you have to remember is if you have something with a brand name or very recognised name, it'll be hell to find in the search engines, and twice, three times as hard to determine your site from any official site, fan site aor the many other millions of sites with the same name. If you go to vague however it'll be hard to find as well as no-onw will think of that, noone will think to look for that. You need to go middle of the road, have something creative but relates to sci-fi bacause using something already very established will not do your forum any good (IMO).

My opinion varies.
When I'm doing a (Harry Potter) role-playing site I'll try to use something that relates to the plot of it. Like on Chaos the plot has a bad witch and a spy at Hogwarts, and because of all this the whole wizarding world is in chaos. With Throughout The Years it was pre-Harry, so I thought putting years or time into the title would be cute since it'll be leading up to his time.
But with my information site I had to come up with something catchy like the Socerer's Companion, but that was already taken so my mother came up with The Wizard's Aid which means the same thing.
Then I did a site dedicated to all the books my fave author (Eoin Colfer) wrote. And I called it Colfer's Corner.
So I think if you're doing a role-playing site you should think of something that's in the plot, but if you're doing something that's more of an information site then think of something simple, like the name of whatever you're giving information on.
~Elizabeth.

I found that naming your board something that is to do with you, or your friends. For instance, I go to a welsh school, so my forum url is ddraiggoch06.proboads*.com (ddraig goch is welsh for Red Dragon), and it's sort of a friends only forum, so they all remember it. And my forum name is called "The Twiggy Forums", because my nickname in school is Twiggy. It also helps by using a redirect, like http://www.[name here].co.nr.

To be honest i think should only use re-direct if you want a more professional look & feel to your forum, otherwise i can't see how it "helps", but that's just me.

When my friend and I were naming our Pokemon board, we decided that the name would be one of the last things we'd think about, so we just named "pokemonrpgf", and planned to just get a 'cover url' at a later date.
I let the person I was working with name it and choose the boards main colour, as I had to do the buttons/banner/skin and find the codes, ect for it, as he finds it to difficult to understand. We settled on the name Ember Flare, because his username on the board is MegaFlare and my log in name for most sites, (including this one, sort of), is Ember. Seeing as the board followed a fire theme, we thought it would fit nicely, and just got a cover url of 'ef-forum.[four letter ending]' for the main page, so it was easy to remember, would fit in well with the board, and so that we didn't have to remember the server number, shame as well, seeing as lady luck was with us and we got the simple number of '100'.
With two other sites I'm joint admin/own, one is named Simzine Diaries, only because my friend bought the domain 'simzine.ending a year earlier for a project, and never started it. We added 'diaries' because it was a board for story writing. For a site I launched nearly two hours ago, the name is Shadonic Sims, and has that it's url. It was simply named that because it's main colour was grey, and the 'mascot' for the board wears a shirt with Segas Sonic the Hedgehog on it.
An hour ago, MegaFlare, who I asked to join me with Ember Flare, asked me to help him with a new forum he's starting on proboards, so I guess I'll get to explain the name of that within the next day or so, joy.

But i hate it when you have a realy cool name but it says the name is already taken, people take the good names then never even try to make there board active but you do.

Something unique perhaps, imaginative or that describes your board. I found it relatively easy at first to name my board as it was subject related, now it's music & general stuff, the name kinda doesn't fit. Some people choose to just name it after themselves!

I am kinda new to these boards. I cant get many people to join my boards. I was wondering how or if I can change the name in the link to my board. I'd like to change it from SandraMonkee to TheMissingLinksMessageBoards
Can anyone help me. I dont know either if I have the right board to post my question.

I called my forum 'spazboardz' Its simple, unique, catchy and easy to remember in the forum url. I didn't have a topic to go with, as its a general forum but i tried to think of something that would stick in peoples minds.
