What should I name my board?

I came up with mine because I needed a name which sounded as though it was related to cats, and was available. Personally, I don't like the board name to have a different title to what it says in the url.

So, I guess I came up on mine based on trial and error I wanted it to be original, so i mixed and matched up an available and still good sounding name came up

My name is always Matrix934. Matrix because I like the word, and 934 because they're digits in my cell phone number. Before that, I used to use Frost Fang, because usually Frost Bite would be taken. I wonder though, howcome the title is about board names, and people are talking about their usernames.

Some people get confused and will name their URLs as their username without thinking. Also, some people will have their username be the same as the name of their forum so people know and have the ability to find them on the internet. It is another form of advertising. It may not be true for everyone, but it is useful at times.

I origionally wanted to name my HPRPG after The Killing Curse, Avada Kedavra, but my friends dared me to change the spelling to see if anyone noticed, so mine's Avada Kedvara. The name stuck with me and I've been flamed a lot for it. Mostly by people whose sites aren't anywhere near canon enough to be considered Harry Potter *insert angry rant here*

Well I believe you should name your board in a way that people can look at a title or a banner and think: yeh that board is about 'this'.

My board names either come from nature or song inspired.

For example Ridge Fall - it could be reinterpretted as Ridge Waterfall. Ridge Fall could also be interpreted as Rock falls. Both names would make sense.

Equestrian center - gives that its a horse and rider roleplay.

Wanna be a Rockstar - I got that from the Nickelback song Rockstar. I was listening to it and tihnking: well yeh a lot of people do wanna be a big rockstar and live the 'ideal' life. So how about a roleplay to do with that?

That's how I came up with my names. My links are generally shortened down versions of the name.

Usually when I name a boarf, a try to think of a title that will work well with my board, and name it that. It doesn't really matter though since you can always change the title, but it is usually the name of my board, a shorten verison like natzy124 said, or it is the name of my board but it has been modified with those cute little symbols and such.
For example xxboardnameherexx.

After many titles, I decided for my forum to be named "The Final Fanatics", a pun of Final Fantasy, one of Square Enix's greatest franchises. The forum is a Square Enix fansite after all.

I Picked my Forum Name Because I Am Quaalude Charlie - So i Thought The Quaalude Board - Sounded Better Than The Quaalude Forum - But The Forum Has a Board Named Quaalude's Board , it's Just my Radio Name in St.Louis , I Wanted to Stay Focused on Radio Dj's , Bands , Music Videos & World News - The Other Admin That Help with Our Forum Like the Name , so it Stuck QC

I found my proboards name out of pure luck. I usually have troubles with good names, but when I usually think of one, I think of one that is inviting, but tells about the website. Hence "The Writers Pub" was born. The name seemed both relaxing and fit for the category I have it in.

I think the name for a board should be wacky and unmentioned. I suggest using some Greek or Latin roots. If people use Greek or Roman roots to make up new names for species, then I think people should do the same with websites.

After a wacky name is suggested, the creator may visualize it, creating a picture based on his/her impression on the name. The design may also reflect the wacky name or wacky style.

@ Midna - this isn't a "help me name my proboard" thread, but rather -- if you had read the opening post -- a discussion about your experiences concerning board naming, techniques you may use when naming a board, etc.

Many forums also make the URL hard to remember as well by having a really long URL. What I'd suggest doing is trying to make the URL just one word and then having the title as something else, or the same if you can. This way it makes it more memorable and if a member forgets to bookmark it, they're more likely to find it again.

The first forum that I had any involvement in as a staff member we called it nicetwilighttwenties - basically there were a few of us from another forum in a chat room and we decided to leave the forum and start our own and we were brainstorming ideas and I thought of the name as a joke to take the mick out of the original forum. The admin actually used it and for a while most people thought it was funny because they knew the reason behind it...a few people took it the wrong way and thought it was arrogant until we explained the name

Our current name in the url and the forum name is Twilight Renegades - Twilight because it was the series by Stephenie Meyer that brought us all together and Renegades because that's how we felt, leaving this other forum and IMDb and venturing out on our own, forming a mutiny so to speak on this other forum. We think it's easy to remember, catchy and a few members who didn't bookmark the link found us very easily using Google, not only because we added the url to the directory but also because by Googling our name, it brings up quite a few posts by me here on this site and if they look at my posts they can get the link that way if needed lol.
