My board's name would have something to do with my forum, short, catchy, special, and doesn't take a lot of time typing. I prefer not to have numbers in the name cause people get confused with the proboards_ _.com part.

My forum name just kind of came to me, I guess. I originally had mine titled "Hogwarts: The Forum", since it was a discussion forum on HP (no role play whatsoever) and I just wanted it to be simple. My Proboards Screen Name has always been potterholic22 (since I'm a potterholic and 22 is my favorite number).
Everyone seemed to like my forum being called Hogwarts: The Forum, too. But we recently switched to RPG and tossed out most of the discussion portion (the discussion kept racing in circles), the forum needed a name change. I for one had always wanted to incorporate "Potterholics" into the name, since it was part of my site's URL and it would make it easier to remember. And that's when it came to me: Potterholics Anonymous. a tag name was added as well, "Come out of the broom closet!"
The name is a spoof off of things like AA and "coming out of the closet." It's not really meant to offend (it hasn't offended anyone so far, at least, which I'm thankful), but it adds a creative and humorous twist to the forum name (Something it needs, since my skin is dark colors and the mood of the forum isn't meant to be dark).
I did have other names thought up, more "serious" and "artsy" names that didn't quite fit the mood of my forum, and if there's any HP webmasters out there that need help with naming their HP forum, I'm only a PM away.
Also, it's also very cool to see HP RPG's with schools other than Hogwarts as their main setting (sadly I do not fit into this crowd..my forum is based at Hogwarts for my own reasons). When you do this, the challenge isn't coming up with a site name, but a school name. I've seen many good ones out there. I think when it comes to HP Role Plays, that is the best way to go about naming the forum. Go with a school name, if it doesn't take place at Hogwarts. If it does, find something unique, as everyone knows what Hogwarts is and naming it "Hogwarts" or any variation of the name will not stand out or interest new members.

At first I wanted to call my forum 'The perfect Ten' even though it sounded catchy I decided to go against it and called my forum 'Totally Tennant'. There both as catchy but for somereason I just liked the second name better.
I find it better if you have a really quirky name something to catch the eye of a member, that's always a good start.

Once you decide on a name, can that name ever be changed? I don't want to cause my members or any potential members confusion, however, I don't like the name my co-admin chose when we started. She has since left the forum. Am I bound to using that name?

Well, this is a support question, but yes, you would go to general settings and change it there, not the url, but the name, you can't change the url.
I think when choosing a name for your forum, you need to put a little thought into it. Don't just decide on some random name you thought might be cool. One that would really get people's attention. But not freak them out.
The second thing that I would have to say about names is that it should always match the theme of your forum. If you are making a pokemon forum, then give it a name that sounds like a pokemon name, whether it be a pokemon or a pokemon region you made up.
It can be very annoying when the name of a forum is misleading. People choose random names(I am not talking about URL's here) and decide to use that and it has nothing to do with what their forum is, I saw someone have Digimon Mania on a pokemon forum once, it was pathetic.
The third thing is to keep the name within the Proboards Terms of Service. If it is not in the ToS, then the forum shall be deleted, and some people don't get that, most do, but some don't.
Those are just some of my opinions on things to think about when choosing a name for you Proboard.

I've found that no matter what forum you want to set up, if you can't think of a name, just put [subject] Galore as it sort of sums it all up. I don't know if Im the only one, but I am a member of a few boards that have names like 'RPG Galore', 'Criminal Minds Galore', 'Graphics Galore' etc and it just seems to sum up the board well.

My forum is a fan based forum for anyone interested in Dynasty/Samurai Warriors. It is called '' LittleDragonZ's Warriors'' at the moment, but the idea of using my name solely because I am a huge fan of Zhao Yun aka The Little Dragon gives me the impression that I am favoring him so much and therefore people might be put off by it. And the fact that it comes straight off my username. The ''Warriors'' I got from a fan based site LINK REMOVED, so I feel its in need of something less ''taken'' if you know what I mean?? The admin himself is a friend of mine so there is nothing wrong with me taking his idea, although I just don't find it appropriate myself. So I am still in search for a name and have a skinless default skin forum still, so I am in need of finding members to help me out in naming the forum, before I get the skin etc. This is my first forum so I am struggling to find members whilst there a few better ones out there. And lastly, the fact that I do not even know how to make templates/skins/banners of which makes me feel stuck in a bit of a pickle.

As for your post, I am a bit confused as to what you are wanting to gain from this board. This board is here to help you and inspire you to come up with your own solutions to coming up with a name and members...

If you have trouble finding a name (specifically for celebrities...musicians...actors....etc) just use the name and add "mania" to the end,
for example, a Traveling Wilburys forum... "WilburyMania!" (yes the exclamation mark is added..)

When I decided to open my own forum I was able to come with the name quite quickly as it is what I want to name my Child Care business when I am finally ready to do it. Family Treasures I feel encompasses what families should be ... Treasured. I feel what I offer in my forum is what new guests and members would expect to find.and maybe more?? Everyone on the board seems to like the name and says it suits it who knows. the possibilities are endless u just need to be creative and go with it and most of all have fun.

I am trying to decide on a name. I was wondering: Can I purchase a domain name and have it applied to a pro board? This sounds more like it should be in SUPPORT, but I wanted to answer it too. I have noticed that many people buy domain names and then set up a forum through the website that is free because they use Proboards for it. You could name them the same and that keeps it consistent. To me, most forum names are not applicable to the topic and that makes them fail.

Thank you for answering me I have not opened a board yet. That is why I was unable to post this question on the support board; they require a URL. I was wondering if I should purchase the domain name first and then set up a pro board using the domain name I purchased instead of the URL proboard assigns. Can it be done that way?

I accidentally added my username to the URL instead of naming it switch board, now it’s squidie and looks really crappy.
