[Debate] Why do you want to be an admin?

I am the Admin of my board because my boards is a board to help people and it seems very nice and I like changing designing it,and I like being incharge...LOL.

I decided to become an admin because I've always wanted to be in complete control of things. I like having the power. It's always hard though. You have to make sure you don't abuse it. I feel I have with one member. I let personal reasons get in the way of how he was on my forum. It's actually our forum since we both kinda sat down and constructed it together. But I felt betrayed a few times and I decided to ban him twice and strip him of his powers. So I need to learn to really be fair to all my members, especially the ones that help me make The Misfits Club better.

I also wanted to make a place for people who feel like they don't really fit in with todays society and with the cliques of todays world. Almost all of my members are wacky and crazy and just out of the box and I completely love that. I love seeing the input that my members give to my forum. I also like how deep they can be sometimes. Most of my members have revealed to me something personal about themselves such as there depression, or sexuality, or home life. I like talking about things of that nature because I try to give back positive input.

So thats pretty much why I wanted to be a admin.

I became an admin because the site that I was on where I was a coadmin, the original admin left us without any notice or anything, for over a month, and we were losing members because of the inactivity of the site admin, although I was active everyday and working on keeping the site open. Probably one of the main reasons why I decided to open up a new site to give us a new chance was because of the member loyalty to me on the other site. I didn't want to lose them and they didn't want to lose each other, so I said, what the heck, and got the three other staffies and we created a new site that has been active and gaining loyal members all the time. I also like knowing that I can be different from other administrators that are very harsh and very strict and hardly let rpers any reins to move freely. I like knowing that I am nice (and psycho, depending on my soda intake that day) and that it brings in members. I like knowing that I have something successful that I can go to and see that almost every board has been posted on at least once, if not five times. I just like the feeling of pride of knowing that I helped to create that. I know how to be fair, though I have had my moments where it was very tempting to be partial. I wanted to have a site where everyone could feel like they were a part of something rather than having to try and get into the group, as if they were on trial until people decided to let them join. I take no crap, I hate disrespect unless it is in jest, and I wanted just a great forum for those that wanted to join. And I got it.

I was not the orginal admin mine. I was a member on another and the girl I role played with alot over on that site said she made a new one and to join up. So me and some people said we give it a try. A week later she told eveyone on the board she did not want to do it anymore and everyone was jumping for the chance to "have" it but I was not interested in having it and mantaining it as admin so I did not fill out the application I logged in and I seen the Admin area in my account and in big words in a created thread. OUR NEW HEADMASTER IS....well It was me. It was kinda forced on me. Did not have two sweet clues on how to be the"boss" took me a while to learn how to do things. Im not so much power hungrey and needing that feeling of control over a site...

I have become admin of my sites, mainly because i hate seeing problems on sites that i am just a member and not being able to do anything about it. Sometimes, it's a lot of work being admin or moderator [say on someone else's site] but it all ends up being worth it.

I am and always want to be the admin of my boards and most boards i join becuase i really cant deal with stupid people. if somone starts acting out or making a scene on my board i just ban them and have it done with, on other boards i cant do that and i have being a member who has to sit by and watch some idiot cover a board in spam

I like being an admin because I like the control. I also hate it because I have the control. I don't handle criticism well but I'm working on it.

I became an admin because I wanted an rpg for people who think and write like I do. I had some success on Yahoo with some boards but not as much control as I have on Proboards. I have a real hatred for Mary Sues and God moding so I'm doing the best I can to squash it on my site.

oo i know what you mean i hate it when people make the perfect character and then when they rp its horrible and you wonder how anyone can put up with them.

I'm an admin because I like being able to solve problems if they arise. As a regular member, the most you can do is suggest ideas to the staff. Also, I am the admin at a roleplay site which no one has done before. It's a Charmed site and I'm sure many have come up with the type of board I have, but I use an episodic format that I haven't seen anywhere else. I like solving problems and being able to take charge of things instead of waiting for others to do it.

Myself I have always had forums that were on topics that there were not many other boards about and those boards that were around I did not much like the design, activity, and overall feel of the forum myself so I created my own in efforts to have a large thriving community that would be of help to others. I take pride in being an admin and providing someone with a community they can be proud of and they want to return to to chat with others.

You wanna know the funny truth of the matter? I NEVER wanted to be the administrator of my own board. I thought is was a bad idea all the way around. lol

However - I think we've all seen these forums around the Internet, where it's a one - two - you're through kinda deal, where a simple disagreement with the admin can result in being banned from a forum. Now don't get me wrong, there are some weirdo's out the to be sure, and sometimes a banning or two is necessary, but IMHO - if it comes down to the point when you have to "mass ban" your members, then it is time to step back, and reevaluate your tactics (again IMO).

After some mass bannings (from hell), many decided I needed to be the administrator of a new board, one with a lil more consideration to the members - thus I created PaganMystics. That was 3 years ago? Well close to it anyway. Today, we're old and slow, hated by some, loved by many...But then - who isn't?

It is easy to be an admin in fact web design is harder so I don't get the confusion....

I'm running my own graph design comp. So my forum impo. to me.

Well. My friend needed help with his proboards in 2005. After two succesful years, he deleted that fourm, (A CRAZY THING TO DO). then lots of members asked help so I'm admin at some fourms.

I've made my own forums because I never seem to find the ideal forum. Sometimes I'm not a fan of how a forum is run, or the graphics or something or other and the admins don't seem to see it my way. I also like to be able to control certain things that I would be able to as a regular member.

For the most part, creating your own board allows for full reign of creativity and structure. You get to see things how you want to see them, not as others envision them.

I feel like I sound totally OCD and controlling but it's not that at all. It's just that sometimes I can see how a certain switch would help the board work out better as a whole, and admins don't always like suggestions. So why not make the board that you think is the "Ultimate Board?"

I don't want to help someone do a succesful forum. I want to make one. And I want to prove to everyone that i can make a succesful site. Which I havn't yet. I don't other people being staff members, but I want to finally have a good website!
