Okay. I confess. I am the admin of a Harry Potter role playing site. Yes, yes. Another one. There are about a billion out there, and it's one of the most common forums I've ever seen.
First of all, I wanted something to do. Poor excuse, I know, but I did. Secondly, I love to write and role play, but I wanted a site where things were done my way. If I was the admin, then things would go the way I wanted them-- all decisions, ultimately, came down to me. Truth was, I was tired of seeing the same old plots, the boring layouts, fights between members, and sites where new members were unwelcome intruders.
And thus, I created my own site, where I could do things my way, and learn from mistakes I had made, as well as the ones I had see out on the WWW.

I originally joined a Star Wars RP forum through link that someone had advertised for, but unfortunately, it was dying. So another member PM'ed me, saying that we should create a new Star Wars RP forum. I wasn't really into the whole Admin thing, I thought I'd leave it to the pros, but I like having a title, so I took the job. Well, after that, I took charge and coded my site (with codes provided generously from here!), and I liked the job. Now, with that new site being dead after 7 months of life, I am just creating my own new Star Wars RP forum.
The reason I like being an admin, despite people saying that there are too many Star Wars boards, is that I like being in charge, and having the feeling that people look to me to fix tings. Call it what ever you want.

Well, I started out by co-founding a forum called the Party Hat Club (Based on the uninteresting online game Runescape), and we managed to somehow spin it out of control and crash it, due to unreliable moderators. Then, I found the Strong Skier Community, and knowing the guy who runs it, I now have a job as a moderator at the board.
In terms of my history on boards, the only real successful board I'm a member of right now is the Ferries of BC, which is a cute little board with 97 members and quite a bit of action.
I personally like being part of the staff on a board is because I'm mostly interested in marketting and improvement. Even though on a lot of the boards I'm a member of I'm not a staff member, I hope to become one someday.

I like the feel of being admin and running my own site. I want to put all my ideas and spare time into the use of creating a website that people like. It feels good, you know? And I've grown so much... I taught myself graphics, web design... and it all worked out in the end. Every successful site I make is better than the last, excluding the ones that just didn't make it too far. It's great to learn.

My reason for wanting to be an admin can easily be explained in one simple quote: "Be the change you want to see happen." --Unknown To My Knowledge Basically, as you have mentioned, I have a forum with a very popular topic. And yet, I found, most of the other forums were either seriously in need of a re-evaluation, or they were dead popular, too big of a community for my liking. Those that were in between were the forums I would consider joining, but most of them lacked in some way. I'm very choosey about forums I join; for instance, I take the layout into consideration. My take on skins is that every time I log on I'm going to have to stare at the same graphics, colours, etc., so it'd better be something I can live with. Additionally, there is something in me that I would call leadership. Whenever I join a forum, I usually wish I could just take over to make things the way I want them to be; it's who I am. As opposed to giving the owner a serious headache about "do this, do that!" I make my own, so that I can have things my way over there.

My reason for becoming admin was pure love of the game i created my forum about..I have posted so much in other peoples forums and learned things at every one of them....some good stuff some bad i learned what works and what i should never do.It would seem a wast not to use that knowledge on my own board.

Reasons to be an admin. Well, I wanted to be an admin because I could finally do something other then watch what people posted. Yes, I was a mod, but it is not the same. An admin gets to do a lot more things, and I like that. I like to create skins, and help others who have no idea how to RP. It makes me feel important because I can do this. Even if I do not get a lot of members, I will still like to be and admin because the others will look up to me.

I've made a few forums during my "Proboards Age". I will list each one and why I made it. Each of them is actually related to the other in a certain way. Hogwarts Site (Don't Remember the Name)1. I joined a Hogwarts site. It died off and the admin provided a link to a new forum of his, which died off after a few days too. I got pissed by that and decided to make my own forum, and not let it die. 2. I thought it would be cool to have my own forum and decide what do on it as I didn't like the layout of a few other Hogwarts sites I've seen. This Hogwarts site was killed off before I even opened it up, as it was total rubbish concerning the boards and the skinning.B.C.M.S - Classical Music Society1. I wanted to make a very succesful forum, so I made a classical music forum. Why? Because I've only ever seen one except mine (that doesn't mean there aren't more though). 2. I like classical music very much, and I wanted a place for people like me to talk about it. This site was never finished, but it still exists and has good skinning. I hope I'll finish it up one day... Hunter's Hogwarts1. I found all those graphics forums with amazing designs. I wanted to make a Hogwarts site with amazing designs such as those because all Hogwarts sites I've seen have been poorly coded and skinned. 2. I started learning coding, and I wanted a forum to use my skill and knowledge on. Latest Project - El Codificador (No, it's not in Spanish)1. I've become quite adept in coding recently, so I decided to make my own site so that I will be able to post my codes without waiting for approval for years. I also thought I can make a good board. 2. I got a bit bored of my hogwarts board. Overall1. I like having my own board because of the fact that most of the boards I've seen had either poor skinning and good content or the other way around. I wanted to make a combination of both, and to bring the "art of forum making" to perfection. 2. Many board admins are extremely unfit for the job, and I wanted to prove that I can be a good admin. I've seen many sites on which the admin was the main spammer, and I thought it's just plain lame. Again, I wanted to prove I'm not as lame... ~The Dog Monster

I am an admin (And proud of it!) because you get to run your forum your own way. Your way is (hopefully) unique. It's more of a challenge than being a member. Its something I enjoy, and I have fun creating new topics and stuff. I own a Squirrel Boy forum, and there isn't one out there, so I pretty sure it will be a good one.

I decided to become an admin because I have such a wide range of interests that if I were to join a forum for each of them, I could never keep up! And I haven't found a forum yet that addressed them all, or even most of them. From candles, oils, and gardening, to music, movies, books, and even wrestling, and a section just for those pointless but fun games that we all enjoy at times. There's so much more, but this isn't an ad, and besides, it would take up way too much room to list everything. Also, member feedback is important to me, and I listen to every suggestion that I get. Another thing I enjoyed about becoming an admin of my own forum is that it gave me something constructive to do, although that was not an initial reason, only a result. Being one of the last real stay-at-home moms around, I find myself with times when there is nothing to do. The housework is done, the kids are either at school or sleeping, the husband is at work, and there I sit, not wanting to go all Peg Bundy and plop on the couch with Bon-Bons. And it's been awhile since I was in school, and I've been yearning to learn something, anything new so bad, that, again after-the-fact, I found finding codes for my board and learning how to apply them, and even the basic functions and reading of them, gave me something useful to learn. My forum is very small still, but the members I do have tell me how much they enjoy the diversity my board offers. Also, I'm hoping that once I can find a few other sites that are willing to affiliate with a board so small, my numbers will increase. But numbers don't bother me, anyways. It's the quality I care about.

it was not so much a matter of wanting to be an admin. I own a football (soccer) forum and the old one run by the BBC was nose-diving to the ground at a fast pace. I was a regular poster on the board so it wasnt seen as spam by the other members. They joined and its gone from there i have stepped down as an admin but i am still active on the forum.

I became I admin, mostly because there wasn't anything to do at my house. Also I always want to control a forum since the first day a became a member to gtagaming. In a way, it's kind of hard to explain why you would want to be admin, but it more for the sense of power. It would just be fun controlling a area where people chat, that's really all. All in the end, it's just leaves you with a good feeling.

It all started back in 2003 for me. I purchased a Hyundai Tuscani (Tiburon) and joined a website called www.newtiburon.com/forums/ After about a year, and thousands of posts, I was asked to become a regular moderator, which was fantastic. After a further period of time, I was promoted to 'Global Moderator' in which I was given more 'roles and tasks' to perform on the board. I loved acting as a judge, mediator, moderator, friend, etc to many many members. Due to work commitments and family life, I resigned from the role after much deliberation. I left on a high and thought that my time there was really well spent. In late 2005, I began managing an amateur charity football (soccer) club in Liverpool, UK. The club did not have a website or any real organisation, therefore, I spotted a niche and went for it. Less than 10 months on, we have a thriving club, and an active and progressing website, with members from all over the world. I have taken this opportunity to learn a lot of new skills, basic website design, linking, javascript, html, etc, etc - and I have loved every minute. I enjoy working and adding to the website and improving it at any given opportunity. I am proud of what I, and my team, have achieved with the site. Whole site: www.fc-ssl.comForum site: http://www.http://fcsslwebmaster.proboards77.com/ There my reasons...what are yours?

Why do you want to be an admin? I enjoy the challenge. I enjoy the fact that I created something and either I fail at it or I succeed. At least I know how competent I am at something. I suppose power makes you feel good. And I enjoy having a bit of power. But, I don't abuse it, not like I used to all those years ago. I enjoy helping people understand wrong from right. I also enjoy weaving out pathetic scum. Oh yes, the kind of people who purposely have a set goal to be a loser, jerk, negative, etc. I enjoy nothing more then to watch as I ban them and know they are gone and the experience for me and my members will be MUCH better without the troublemaker(s).
