v5 will use a https secure login server, so it's even more secure that v4.5. But the simple logic of having multiple passwords over one single password is lost. ;D Which just means you're going to be more likely to forget your password. Pick a secure password in the first place and you aren't going to have a problem.

A 15-character password is the best my brain can do, I'm afraid.

But I'm a little skeptical about the login system.

You can still register multiple email addresses instead... this is no less secure than v4.5. In v4.5, I can have 100 accounts, but if they all share an e-mail, then cracking the e-mail is all I need to get access to the accounts. Pat: Is there any chance of getting 2-factor authentication with v5? (Following Google's example.)

Right now we're not adding any new features besides what is already planned for our list.

Because Google's can be very annoying at times.

Make the global password hard enough and no more problems. My suggestion is here.

Also this hasn't been mentioned yet but emails are private in v5.
So to those of you concerned about someone cracking your password, they don't even know your login. So they would have to somehow randomly guess your email address out of all the email addresses in the world and then successfully crack your password on top of that. The odds of that happening are ridiculous. As long as you have a decent password and you aren't running around telling everyone your login you are going to be just fine. And that's not even counting the fact that in v5 we use a secure server and logins don't even take place on the forum anymore. Not even the admin could be devious somehow and steal your information.
In v5 no one knows your login or password but you. Think about how much more secure that is.

There's a HUGE list of things that will be better, but to try some out, go to the test V5 forum: v5.proboards.comgood link

Staff on my forum rely on knowing our registrants E-Mail Addresses to help prevent Spam, to help prevent more than one account per person and such like that. We also E-Mail our members regularly with the result of something (some of our submission systems), Birthdays, Welcome E-Mails etc, we use this for ease of use and assists us in looking professional and such. Basically what I'm saying is knowing our members E-Mail Addresses is very important to us, we're already going to lose some other features that I like. Eventually Admins will have no more powers than members :/.

I believe he meant that Staff can see emails but otherwise it is automatically private, there is no more setting to leave it public? Atleast that's my take on it.. but an admin can verify.
