Thanks - I'm still curious because it states " However, if you share an image with Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Reddit, etc., then it may end up in the gallery."
People are allowed to share photos from Imgur on FB, Twitter, etc. but not on Proboards? Is that correct? (I'm asking sincerely). I want to get all of my ducks in a row before I post information for our members. Thank you again. As I understand it - It's when you have a album on IMGUR and all the images are used for your Forum Like backgrounds - icons - Avatars - banners - ect... So best to re-host them Steve

Just posting a picture in a post on a thread. That's all we have used Imgur for. That's all we want to use it for. Thank you again. Michael or Proboards staff, do you know? I realize I might have to ask Imgur, but wanted to ask here first. Thanks! We posted at the same time so I've edited out my question. Thanks!

Just not images that are loaded as part of your theme, or avatars. If you're posting and hosting images for sharing in a thread (for instance) that would be fine according to their TOS. They just don't want to play host to images or things that are loaded a every single time you load a page like parts of your theme, signature, avatars, etc.

I have hundreds of smilies on my smilie Dropdown Menu hosted by Imgur. I presume they are at risk?

If someone's imgur hosted avatar or shared photos on a thread are allowed, aren't they loaded every time that page is viewed, just like a background, etc?

Avatars aren't allowed.
The difference between a shared photo posted in a thread and an avatar is one is going to load on every page you've posted on (and occasionally more). The shared photo will only display in areas its going to display on the thread (eg the page it posted on for example)

I understood that, as my earlier posts indicate. However, after Michael's post, it left me wondering, since we have photos that can be viewed far more often than a particular member's avatar. Some members don't post nearly as often as photos are loaded and viewed. So if it's all about bandwidth, some photos may get far more views than a single member's avatar.

Okay. Well, I need to find a new host. Theme images, avatars, signatures. I have all of them hosted on Imgur.
I used it because a friend had recommended it as the top for such a use. So now I ask, which alternative is best? Photobucket has some glitches. Tinypic recycles URLs. I would rather not pay for a host.
Could I upload everything to ProBoards? Theme images and avatars? I know I'd need to find a host for signatures though.

If you need more space, then you can purchase more space Alternately, paying for a web host and space isn't that expensive. It's actually really affordable. Just an option.

Mixed , I can only go by 12 years of hosting images for eBay as a PowerSeller and 7 years for our Forum. Photobucket, like any company, may have occasional glitches, but they've never lost data.
The longest down time was last week, but again, no data was lost.
I have hundreds and hundreds of images there ~ in their free account. We get a lot of forum pageviews and the free account provides enough bandwidth for all of those page views.

I've also never had a problem with Photobucket losing data. I did have to convert to a paid account pretty quickly though - most of my smilies are hosted there, and with around 100k pageviews daily the free bandwidth just couldn't cope.

How do you know whether or not the bandwidth can cope? Does it slow the load or even not load for everyone?

Your account shows how much bandwidth is being used, Mixed .
So if you are nearing it, you will know it. And it resets every month.
And as I said, we haven't and you can see how many pageviews our home page alone gets.
My 12 year old photos from eBay are still in my library there.
