I've also never had a problem with Photobucket losing data. I did have to convert to a paid account pretty quickly though - most of my smilies are hosted there, and with around 100k pageviews daily the free bandwidth just couldn't cope. How do you know whether or not the bandwidth can cope? Does it slow the load or even not load for everyone? If you exceed the limit (10GB /month) none of your linked images load, they are replaced by an error message per this page: link

I see. So at least there's a warning (sorta) before your images fail to load. Thank you, ♥ ℒʊ√ ♥ and Ghost77.

Thanks - I'm still curious because it states " However, if you share an image with Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Reddit, etc., then it may end up in the gallery."
People are allowed to share photos from Imgur on FB, Twitter, etc. but not on Proboards? Is that correct? (I'm asking sincerely). I want to get all of my ducks in a row before I post information for our members. Thank you again. This sort of hosting is allowed under their TOS. Just not images that are loaded as part of your theme, or avatars. If you're posting and hosting images for sharing in a thread (for instance) that would be fine according to their TOS. They just don't want to play host to images or things that are loaded a every single time you load a page like parts of your theme, signature, avatars, etc. I should be good then, as ones I've got linked from there are in a post or PM - none are used for my avatar or theme(s). I don't have an image in my sig, so not worried there.

I have a paid account with Photobucket, but stopped using it, because the urls to the images are very unwieldy compared to those of imgur. Makes a difference when uploading smilies in the smilie drop-down menu. Now obviously, I'm going to have to upload most of them again!

whisker , actually they're not.
You need to go into your privacy settings and not allow them to add that scramble prefix to the end of them. Then they are normal urls.
With my dozens and dozens of themes and their images and all of my personal and board smilies, there's no problem.

Although the wording has changed recently, Imgur has had the content delivery network section in their T.O.S. since as early as the beginning of 2015. They seem to have a spelled it out a little clearer and have gotten more proactive but their message has remained the same.

Okay I was really worried there for a moment. Thought I was going to have to comb through my entire forum and replace links for about 1000 images. But as I understand it now that won't be necessary. I only have to host the two banner images elsewhere.
Am I correct in thinking that I have to tell members on my forum to not use Imgur for their avatars and signatures? If a member uses Imgure for their avatar or signature, and Imgur catches on, could that mean that my whole forum would be banned from using Imgur? Could it mean that the whole of ProBoards could be banned from using Imgur? Or is this strictly a per member thing?

As I was understanding it, Lord Ba'al, it's the images that load EVERY time the forum loads a page. This would be banners, avatars, and signatures, as well as any other image in the themes. Sharing images should be fine because that is only on one page. You will also need to rehost, likely, affiliate and advertisement banners. At least that's what I'll be doing to be safe.

I have a large hosting plan with BigWetFish. I'm going to set up an image hosting script on it. If anyone wants access just shoot me a PM and I'll let you know when it's finished. Edit: I made my own image host. If you want info just PM me. Edit: I will sponsor RPGs to help spread the word too PM me!

Most likely it would get your forum banned from Imgur as we don't use the same process of domain connection as other forum hosts (which is what caused the problem for them).

imageshack.us and photobucket.com are stingy with their bandwidth. Your images will go dead within the lifetime of your forum. Caveat developor.

Our forum is seven years old, and we've never had a problem with any images going "dead" on Photobucket.
And I have 12 year old images there from when I was a Powerseller on eBay. And they've not been removed.
Glitches may happen, but that's with every company.

I suggest using ultraimg as an alternative; it's functionally the same as imgur, allows hotlinking, no apparent bandwidth caps, and you can mass upload images and create albums on the fly.
If you're also one who used randimg for any banners or signatures, a suitable alternative to that--randimg uploads to imgur for the time being (I emailed the creator/host and he's looking into his options--is imageweave. None of the other randomizers offer the same kind of functionality as randimg other than imageweave. It's not as fancy looking, but everything works the same.

Hi @joecool111 No, as one no one else would be able to see the images and 2 your forum won't know about the images or how to get them from your pc to the forum. You still have Postimage, (no login required to post) or Photobucket, (login required to post). Postimage is great, i use it whenever I need to upload an image, I actually banned tinypic from my forum due to some of the issues people had with them ( I never had issues myself though, just being on the safe side though )

I can't for the life of me remember if any of my themes use imgur, I think some images MIGHT. I am mostly unsure due to me using my own (or friends) host, or uploading via you guys (PB). Of course, if any of my themes do become affected, please let me know (someone, anyone) so I can change them for the library.
