Pebbles, in the time I have been here there has not been any mechanism that prevented a member from bumping sooner than the allotted time (other than the rules, of course). You say you see people cheating already. Where? if so, then use the Report Post feature. That's why it's there, to report a post the doesn't adhere to the rules. Since the new bumping rule has been implemented I have been visiting the boards regularly to assist the mods with this transition. I've not seen any 'cheating'. (Granted I have not checked them all this morning for those that posted last night, but those threads I did skim, the bumping was within the rules.) So if I mistook the meaning of your post, then I will apologize. I would expect members to weigh in regarding the new policy and share their opinion. I would not expect them to mention cheating. Members that don't follow the bump rules do so out of not knowing the rules or getting confused on which board can bump when (hence the rule change). I don't think I've ever encountered one that has purposely done it to cheat the system, so I naturally wouldn't be thinking of that. I guess I have more faith in our members.

I stand corrected, you are right. There was a plugin that did this. It was obscurely named and so I missed it. Also those around me I asked didn't realize we had it installed. I see now this was done back in the days of Ricky being here on support. Anyway, I have updated the plugin to the new 24 hour rule. However, I would like to say that my previous statement stands. Starting after the new rule was in place I've personally clicked into every new posting on the advertising board and have not seen any pre-bumps or attempts to cheat the rule. Even though there was a plugin, it clearly wasn't needed for members to follow the new rule and do the right thing. My faith in our members was not misplaced!

I'll admit, while I know the new rule, it'll be nice to have the reminder at least for the transition period (of not being able to bump). For four years that my ad has been up, it's been 'you can bump once an hour', it is a bit of a change. :- P That's not saying that I'm not trying to remember the rule or whatever, but just a statement that it's something new to remember, and I appreciate the reminder (and also the box above the quick reply - It's very helpful).

I do understand breaking an old habit to something new. This is why I implemented the reminders in the quick reply and full reply boxes. Glad they're being noticed and helpful. Like I said previously I didn't realize there was that plugin, have since updated it today to the new time frame for bumping. And my kudos still go out to all you members that are making the effort to adjust. You're doing great. Thanks!

Don't like this. Bad decision. I would perfer every few hours. I liked the old way much better. This was discussed by the staff, and the new rules were chosen for a number of reasons. Amongst them the fact that there is now no confusion, on the part of staff or members. At times staff would have to check the rules themselves for boards they were unfamiliar with, in order to respond to reported posts. Similarly, members would assume that they could bump more frequently than they could in boards they were unfamiliar with. By limiting all boards to a 24 hour cycle there is no confusion. Scott also pointed out that this means in competitive boards where you want to be seen at the top of the first page, members aren't going to be penalised for working, or for otherwise being unable to sit on PBS for large amounts of time. When a person bumped a thread, the quick post was shut off after the posting. There should have been no confusion. And I only reported people who posted something else other than a bump, like when I was being chased around social media by a disgusting troll.

The Maniac On Wheels (The MOW), Advertise Your Forum board was not the only board that allowed bumping. Among all the bumping boards, there was a range from 1 hour to 3 days. The confusion was the member that had threads to bump in multiple boards not within just the same board - and us having to keep track of which board bumps when. I appreciate that you "liked the old way much better", but let's be honest then, you had an advantage over other members so why wouldn't you like that better. I'd encourage you to give it some time. You might find it's not all that bad now after all.

I was one who used to vote every hour mainly because I could as I am retired. I believe this rule is for the better and gives everyone a much fairer chance to advertise their forum.
Great idea and pleased you have changed the rule Proboards.

So then why the problem with the new rule? I just like the old way better. I believe this is the point. Those who like the old way better will have experienced an advantage, regardless of whether or not they feel that they received one. To illustrate: you were able to bump one of your advertisement threads on Nov. 05 at the following times (Pacific, for me):
- 08:35 am - 09:38 am - 10:51 am - 01:09 pm
Whereas on Nov. 05 I was personally out of my home in attendance of a prior obligation until 09:00 pm and would have been unable to behave similarly with my own advertisement thread. I am certain many other advertisers were unable to post four times that day, as well.
Even if you cannot see the advantage yourself, the fact that you were, in fact, able to bump multiple times per day is the advantage you received.

You can have somebody else bump for you.
