There are currently email issues on some of the newer servers. These problems are as a result of email providers such as hotmail simply blocking our servers. Our servers themselves are sending out emails just fine, as users using other email providers are getting their mails instantly. We also get status reports about the sent email instantly, so they are defiantly going.
Annoyingly, as other internet based services have found out, hotmail do not follow standards when it comes to reporting email delivery. According to the response from hotmails mail servers to each mail sent, they get a "successfully delivered" message, which in fact isn't the case, its deleted as "spam" within their system after that point, and never reported back to us as happening. This makes it VERY hard to detect which servers are blocked, and which are not, as in all cases, the responses from their mail servers is exactly the same as servers where delivery works. In fact the only reason i know is when i test each server with my own hotmail address and see which i get an email from.
Users of AOL should have noticed a significant increase of delivery rates of emails from us. This is due to a very helpful mail department who have contact numbers, web forms, and application procedures to be added to whitelists.
Hotmail don't have a whitelist, the closest they have is "pay $20,000 a year and bypass our filters". That realistically only being an option for ISP's and other email service providers (such as yahoo for example) and to me is just typical Microsoft.
We are trying our best to rectify this situation by rerouting mail through non blocked servers, but as users may have noticed hotmail are blocking more and more servers
Hopefully a more permanent arrangement can be made. If in the mean time you have having problems with hotmail, i can only suggest using another email provider for the purposes of receiving activation codes
I apologize for this inconvenience

I hope this was ok to put this up, but gmail never has any problems with getting an activation code because if it doesn't end up in the inbox, it'll DEFINETLY end up in the spam or trash folder - that is a certainty, I'd basically recommend it to any proboards user (as well as Yahoo of course) .

Ill keep the 1st post up to date with any user opinions stated in this thread

Sounds good Martyn
Oh yes, one other thing, part of the problem with activation codes (or delivering e-mail I should say), is usually (but not always) the browser cookies. As you have just outlined, microsoft is just typical (and I'll tell ya what, I certainly agree with that lol). The other problem is, that some members (as far as I've noticed from my forum) have been using an e-mail address they don't even check lol - If they want the activation code that badly they should have the decency to provide an e-mail address that they check regurlarly

Thanks I guarantee you, hotmail currently, will fail you to be able to recieve an activation code so... I'll show you the list of the ones which I believe are VERY CAPABLE of getting activation codes. They are: - Gmail (definetly proven by default cause I use it alot lol)
- Yahoo
- Netspace
They're about the only ones I know of so far lol...if I think of any more, I'll update my list

Yahoo definatly accepts our mail, however the service was/is rather unreliable. A recent test (not by us) showed 50% of their incoming mail servers being down at the time of the test. Since that report was published they could well have fixed that (would like to hope so) but im not sure. I know a couple of months back my parents (who use BT yahoo mail) had instances where mail (in general, not from PB) wasnt arriving, or if it did, days late because of the problem
Aside from that, and definatly if they have fixed it, yahoo mail works

What the hell is that? MSN and Hotmail are crap services to me now. I say we take down MSN...lol.

Yea, its not a very good situation, i have spoken to a sys admin who have had the problem since late 2004, so its not a new thing it seems, just these days with spam like it is, hotmail are blocking more and more people even faster. Everyone i have spoken to have the same problems, and those who are "lucky" enough to get in contact with hotmail, have been lectured about the paid service.
Looks like i shall need some more creative thinking

You could just route all the emails through one separate server, it'd be easy to tell if that one was being blocked so you could fix in that case.

You cant just "fix" a block. It is done remotly and we have no control over it. Additionally if that 1 server was blocked, ALL users of that service would then be blocked, at least at the moment it is just a couple of servers
Besides, no 1 server could handle that much mail. Services like hotmail have thousands of servers to process mail sending alone

I have a gmail account and I always recieve all mail from PB instantly. There are thousands and thousands of invites out there, so it's not hard to get an invite, so I'd just ask someone for one even if the account was just going to be used to recieve activation emails and such from PB.
