If FDN has even a fraction of the reliability issues that have been plaguing ProBoards for the past six months to a year, I certainly wouldn't blame a person for jumping ship.
And really, that is what's most disappointing about ProBoards. The server and connection errors have gotten out of hand and have been an ongoing issue for so long that I have abstained from starting a (free) community that has been planned for awhile now and probably will end up being self-hosted, because the forecast is looking a bit dreary around these parts.
I don't know how the support is for FDN, so can't comment. Feature requests not being catered to is just what happens when you subscribe to a "one size fits all" service like PB/FDN and I'd say that it's a bit unreasonable to expect otherwise, but they should be making constant and ongoing improvements instead of treating the software like a packaged product that can only be updated in bulk alterations at far-off intervals. But businesses like investment stability, and keeping parity between PB and FDN means that the latter is always going to hold the entire service back for as long as it can still be viewed as a success in ProBoards' eyes. I don't necessarily begrudge PB for this particular aspect, because that's just the nature of the beast.

We tried an SLA claim once, actually. We were told since their monitoring service didn't show any downtime, it doesn't count. Even with the Bear error, it still is "online". But, paying $600+ a year for this, ended up being an insane cost we cannot justify, for less features than any other major paid forum software or free software.
I can go into detail, but, honestly, PRoBoards is a horse that fell down. v5 was a shaky launch, but impressive software. The last 4 years have been chasing down bugs in it.
For feature requests, Forums.net actually has less features than ProBoards.com forums.
