Thanks for the information. I attempted to set all my stories back on visible to everyone except for the private category which does not appear under my writings categories. In short, I am unable to make the category containing stories I wish to maintain private-as private. I tried to remedy this by trying to shift all the stories under private to a category that I limited access to. But could not do so as a bundle and would need to do so one at a time. A very tedious procedure. iSo I have opted to simply place all the writing categories on private until I can figure out away to make the private category really private or else gradually shift the stories to a private category. . I use the private category compose new stories, to store anthologies, and keep stories that I don't want published. When I finish a story in the private category, I might shift it to the viewable writing category under short stories. But since the system I believed was working isn't working, I will need to figure it out. As for tampering, well, I don't live with anyone, have no visitors, and the only who have access to my apartment are the maintenance people and management. I don't think it could be them. In any case, I will try to follow your advice and check the internet provider numbers during the times that the changes were made. I am not too proficient in doing such things. But I will try. Thanks for trying to help. If you want to spend some 1:1 time with me via PMs, we can try to sort things out (using screenshots and stuff to make sure that your settings are exactly how they need to be to accomplish what you want to accomplish). Absolutely zero obligation to do so, just thought I'd offer if you were interested. If you don't know where your security log is, it's in your admin panel, under the "Security" tab in the top right menu (first option). Any actions like changing board settings will 100% for sure be logged here, and there are filter options so you can specifically look for just "Board Log > Edits" or "Category Log > Edits". If you do this, you can compare the changes you know for sure you made, versus the changes that set your board in a way you did not intend. There are several possibilities here, since you mentioned you don't have anyone else sharing your living space or device, in no particular order: 1. Someone has specifically compromised your device. This is the least likely because if someone has compromised an entire device to enable them to 'share' your IP, it's far more likely they would commit much more troublesome acts such as stealing banking information or gaining access to more critical accounts, like email or credit cards, than just make some inconvenient changes to a single forum. 2. The settings are accurate to what you set them to, but the settings are not behaving in the manner you would expect. I don't know how likely this is, since if I recall correctly you've been using PB for some time, but there's a non-zero chance of this being the case so I'm including it to cover all bases. An indicator of this case being true would be is if a category or board does not behave in the manner you expect, but there are 0 logs in the "edit" filter of either category or board security logs; if this happens, that means the setting was there from the creation of that board or category.3. Someone has access to your account from another device / IP. This would imply that someone was able to crack your password and gain access to your admin account. It's not impossible, even if you have a secure password, for it to be cracked. To err on the side of caution, changing your password both to your ProBoards account & your email associated with ProBoards would be a smart move. The best way to determine for sure is to keep an eye on the security log: if anything else happens to your forum that is a confusing result, or not what you had intended to occur, check your security log ASAP and compare your current IP address (you can look it up somewhere like whatsmyip.com) with any recent actions** ** Note that you may also have a dynamic IP, so you can check past actions you KNOW you made for sure, to compare to the current IP. If they're the same, then your IP is static; if they're different, you have a dynamic IP, but any actions taken within the same time you are online in that moment should be the same IP (let me know if that line doesn't make sense).

Hi Radrook , The entire category "My Writings" is set as a hidden category. Hidden categories will not appear to anyone. Additionally this category is only accessible to staff. I will restore it to how I originally set it. If it returns to private viewing only, then I guess my computer is compromised. So, I've been seeing several threads from you as of late saying your account or computer must be compromised due to your forum's settings not being what you intended them to be. I am not doubting you, but this sort of activity does make me curious as to the source. When you check your security log to see when and who made these changes, do they come from your account? And if they do, does the IP or IPs associated with the account at the time these actions were taken match your other activity that you know for sure to be yours? It's very unusual for a bad actor to compromise a single computer or single account to make small, effectively irrelevant (in that you can change the settings back, and the forum as a whole is still standing) changes to a single forum if they've managed to compromise an entire system. I wonder if perhaps you live with other folks, or have inadvertently left yourself logged in on another device that's shared, or something of that nature? That is, if the IP associated with your account at the time the settings were switched to something else match other legitimate actions your account has taken. If however, you discover that the IP associated with your account when these actions were made is different from the IP shown on legitimate actions, your account could very well be compromised.

I could be wrong, but in all my years of templates I have been unable to find a way to do this either and have had to resort into deep nesting. Maybe Brian knows? That said, I do believe you may be able to add a class via javascript, with the caveat that javascript loads after page content finishes loading so there may be a brief moment where things render incorrectly before the js "kicks in" so to speak. I am not well versed in js so maybe Lynx or Chris would know?

Not sure what you're asking for. The URL I sent you states I have been banned and that's all shows. I have no other URL except the one that shows the Message "You Are Banned". On the forum you can report abuse and I was banned for doing so by diggs. What's the use of having that if you're going to be banned for using it. diggs didn't allow using free will. This is getting me no where. All we really needed was the *message* -- which you just provided. Thanks! To try and make this clear: ProBoards does not interfere in how forum admins decide to run their forum. If the admin banned you, they banned you, and you need to move on no matter how unfair you find their policies. Separately, if you feel that the forum violates the ProBoards Terms of Service you can report that to abuseteam@proboards.com ; this is NOT an avenue to argue against being banned, but rather to report if the forum itself is violating the terms of use. I hope that clears it up!

You need to actually tell me what the error message is. Linking to the site helps us identify where the issue is occurring, but does not actually provide us the same thing you see — I am not banned, so I won't see a banned message.

What is the exact error message you receive that lets you know you're banned? Knowing that will let me know if the PB admins can help or not. Edit: You've edited your post; if the admin banned you purposefully, that's their right to do, per the PB TOS. ProBoards will not interfere in that regard. If you feel that the forum itself violated the TOS, you can report it at abuseteam@proboards.comBear in mind tho, reporting does not guarantee action or that you'll be unbanned, if the admin's actions are not found to be in violation of the terms of service.

Need to know where to go for help...anyone? If this isn't the right place, where else should I go? That URL doesn't show us the forum, what is the exact error message you receive? There are 2 possibilities; one PB admins can help with, the other they can't. As to your post script: you are posting outside business hours which are M-F, 9am to 5pm pacific (-8gmt). Please have patience.

Also yes, it does double count a member yet to log in as a "guest" and then separately as a "member" upon logging in.

Thanks everyone. Last night I told her that while she's waiting for ProBoards to get back to her, she might as well try to clear her cache and update her browser. Apparently one of those things did it and she's back to having access. Clearing cache was likely the success. It sounds like she has a dynamic IP which at one point belonged to a bad actor; her IP likely changed again at some point but her cache was still loading the page as if she was on the "bad" IP. Glad it resolved without a fuss!

It's not always a VPN; her ISP could be recycling IP addresses (ie a dynamic IP) which means she could have gotten an IP that was previously used by someone that engaged in unsavoury behaviour.
If the VPN is not the cause, they should try to reset their router. The router reset should issue a new IP that is hopefully unblocked.

Not here to say whether or not you can PM an admin; however just to inform you, your prior thread was locked by a mod for not following forum rules — specifically, the rule about not posting publicly about an issue with a moderator. It was requested you move the matter to PMs, which you seem to be doing here.
I just wanted to provide the context, best of luck on a resolution.
**Please note that I am not a PB staff member nor am I a mod.

Thanks I looked at my profile and it says I'm supposed to get weekly but I haven't had one in years. I went in an re submitted hoping a refresh was needed. Hopefully it works Is there a way to do it globally for all members? As mentioned above, members will individually and personally have to opt in due to privacy laws.

Forum URL: (private) When creating a post and I want to tag someone by using Insert User Link, even if I paste the entire username in it will not pull up the user. The only way I can tag new users right now is by typing @ and then copy/pasting the user name. Thanks! It sounds like you may need a reindex. A PB admin can trigger one for you, should be relatively quickly since it's still within business hours.

Feel free to ask in the Templates board. Also, my site is different from others and necessitates deletion of inactive accounts. RP communities have to maintain accurate membership lists because they are an integral part of determining who plays what character and what interactions are available for play. My forum has some play by post games going at times, but those usually have around a max of 6-8 players so keeping track is not a problem and the character is usually identified in the signature and I used a plug in to increase the number of characters available in the signature. I can see if you whole for was for RP it might be more difficult. Yeah, my entire forum is play by post RP; we have out of character accounts for 'normal' posting, but a vast majority of our accounts are specific to a user's character. If we don't keep our member lists accurate, it a) gives a false activity level which is a huge metric for RPers on deciding whether or not to join a forum (some folks prefer big sites, others small, etc) and b) it messes up the playable character directory resulting in characters that are actually not available for RP being tagged to join in.

I tend to keep my member list up to date because we're an RP site, so basically after X amount of inactivity I delete folks. That said, I actually know where most of the 'main' members that wound up leaving are up to. I'm friends with a good chunk of them (and haha, am marrying one of them this year), and the others I may not be super close to but still get to check in with -- most of them were kids when they joined us, but now they're adults getting married with jobs and stuff. Several of my members became doctors and nurses and lawyers, others became game industry professionals, and still others have started families. I don't delete accounts for the simple reason that while it used to leave the name there, now it changes it to deleted which is horribly ugly. I wish there was someway to change it to something less offensive. There is :P Feel free to ask in the Templates board.
