I'm looking to prevent Discord server advertisement. There could be a plugin to do this, but plugins can be bypassed easily. If you want to block this, put the discord invite starting URL - discord.gg - in your censored words in the admin panel and replace it with [Discord Ads Not Allowed] or some other messaging of your choice. This will break any link -- including if they hyperlink text and/or an image -- posted that starts with that URL (do NOT check "whole words") and replace the link with whatever you put in the replacement box. It won't prevent them from posting, but the URL will be useless.

How can I embed tweets that have x.com in the URL, instead of twitter.url?
Is there something I can do, or do I have to wait for Pro Boards to provide their own update? You have to wait for PB to update things. In the mean time, you can try censoring "x.com" to be replaced with "twitter.com" in the censored words list of your admin panel. That's been a good workaround for the most part, but the company officially deprecated the twitter URL so there is no guarantee how long this workaround would be useful.

Basically I need feedback on how to get more people to join my forum and how to successfully advertise my forum For whatever it's worth: "get people to join" and "advertise" is probably not the focus you want to have. Forums are a community, and the best way to ensure success in a forum is to set it up so that people don't just join, but actively participate and form bonds with each other. A lot of admins, especially those just starting out, make this crucial mistake and then wonder why, despite having a lot of members and / or guest traffic, no one is posting and engaging. The best way to start off is to figure out what type of community you want to build. Are you looking for hobbyists / collectors? Are you looking for a more general chat vibe with a special section for a particular interest? Are you looking for a particular kind of member? and so on. At this time, my biggest criticism is that you haven't really done anything to encourage discussion. I clicked into a few of your more "discussion" themed threads, but they weren't made in such a way that it encourages anyone to participate. Example, the thread titled "Bells vs Sounders" in your discussion board: your opening post simply defines the two terms. You offer nothing of your own opinion, no direction in which the conversation would flow. What is a user supposed to do with this thread? How do they know they kind of response you're looking for? What about Bells vs Sounders do you want them to discuss? You've got a lot of boards with a lot of threads, but if this one is any indication, the threads are all similarly structured to this. You cannot expect to just create a bunch of threads and for people to just start posting and then boom, active and successful forum. If anything, you need to be the one to show people how you want members to interact. Show them by offering your opinion, your own thoughts on the topic at hand, rather than just being like "Bananas. Talk about them here." Being a forum admin means being a community manager; you can't expect a community to form on your forum spontaneously by advertising and getting people to join — you have to create a reason to get them to stay.

Please offer suggestions on how I can improve the forum encourage participation. Also, I moderators to help in the administration. Also, someone trustworthy and dedicated to take over when I am gone. Please read the posting rules to determine if you would be interested. Thank you varietygalore.boards.net/While I am happy to do the former, the latter — asking for staff and whatnot — is not allowed here. If you need staff members, it's recommended that you promote from a trusted member already on your site, or a friend etc. I will write a more comprehensive review when I am at my desk a little later, but for what it's worth initial impression is that I have no idea what the forum is about and I was unable to figure it out in 30 seconds. 30 seconds is, on average, the amount of time it takes a user to decide whether or not they want to continue looking into a website. If a user cannot figure out the purpose of the website in that amount of time, a majority of them will simply navigate away without bothering to explore different pages to try and figure it out. Just some easy food for thought while I get my day going. More to come when I am settled in for work.

Hello! I am new to using this website. I created a group for my apartment community. I am wondering if there is an option for them to receive a daily digest email of all updates on the board from that day? Does this feature exist and I'm just missing it? Thanks! It exists, but it's an opt-in feature on a per-user basis, to comply with privacy laws. You can turn them on for yourself by updating your notification preferences in your profile settings. My recommendation would be to create a thread that lets your members know of the option, and encourage them to use it. However, you can't do it for them or set the feature to opt-in by default. Hope this helps!

I'd like to know the proper terminology for the various hierarchical levels within a forum. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the following terminology. The top level of a Forum is simply called that, a Forum. I see this basically synonymous to "Website", although I know that a Forum can be part of a larger website. The next level down is called a "Category" The next level down is called a "Board". The next level down is called a "Subject". Frankly, I've never heard the last level called a "Subject". Usually, I see them called "Threads", or occasionally "Topics". I have also frequently seen Categories and Boards referred to as "Sub-Forums", "Sections", "Sub-Sections" or similar, with no real distinction between the two. So, what's the correct terminology for these hierarchical levels? I think you're a little bit turned around -- they're still called threads, it's just the column says "subject" to indicate that the words in the column represent the title of the thread is (as opposed to denoting the classification of the function). It's like the subject line of an email, but the email itself isn't called a subject. The terminology is as follows: Forum > Category >> Board >>> Subboard >>> Thread >>>> Post It should be noted that subboards are infinitely nesting on PB within a 1,000 board total across the forum, but they are generally only referred to as "subboards" rather than the full sub-sub-sub... etc indicating how far deep they are. With regards to people using certain terms interchangeably, this is likely because different providers do not care what other providers' terminology uses are and they decide on something specific for their product. When users migrate between platforms, many of them take the terminology they're most comfortable with and use it, assuming (usually erroneously) that the terms are the same at another platform. I have been a PB user for nearly 20 years so the above hierarchy is correct for PB, and also what I view as "correct" in general... however, the latter is definitely subjective. Ultimately there is no blanket, globally defined terminology, but there is an objectively correct set based on the platform you've chosen. Hope this helps!

Hi, I don't know if this has been asked, I apologize in advance if this already has.... I would like to know if you can make a map and be able to pin them so you can mark it when you are from... I don't know if this is possible... or if there is a pin, please direct me in that direction. Many thanks!!! I don't think a plugin exists for this, but there are plenty of 3rd party sites that have embeddable maps for this purpose. Is there something specific you want in this plugin that a third party version can't do? Or did you have a particular vision for the step by step user experience?

How familiar are you with HTML and CSS? Theoretically, the login/out links can just be a single variable in the layout templates and it shouldn't be complex at all to move them. From my examination of the design, the problem isn't with the links but rather the amount of links contained in the menu bar that has a static, predefined maximum width.
Happy to walk through this with you but I need to understand a baseline knowledge first so I can adjust my responses accordingly.

I would like to reiterate a request made previously by several people to give admins the ability to reset thread view counts to "0" or "1". I would post to one of those older threads, but they're locked. My reason for the request is the same as those of others, namely, that I am in the process of creating a forum with many pre-made topics/threads (70+) where I am accumulating many views due to my frequent editing, proof reading, etc., before going "live". I know I can simply "repost" threads, but like I said, I've got upwards of 70 total. It's not that important of an issue to me, but it would be a nice feature - thank you. As mentioned in the past thread, this was marked as a feature request. That hasn't changed. Unfortunately, all feature development has been suspended, both for the current version v5 and the future version v6, indefinitely. While this is still on the list of requests under consideration if development were to resume, I gently advise assuming that you will not be able to do this in the foreseeable future

nvm fixed it, learned CSS. psa-online-boards.boards.net by the way. PHW Revival. but a whole new issue has arisen, where the login, register and log out links have just gone. poof. I'm sorry to hear that. However, again: forum URL? No one can diagnose a problem they cannot see, at best I would be guessing from a magical hat of comedic prompts or assuming it was the Butler in the Library with a Candlestick.

I know this sounds like a very simple thing, but as it is written (having something that is animated, that you can also interact with, that also makes noise) this is a huge ask. I am not saying it's not possible, just wanted to set the expectation that it's very unlikely someone will do this for you. Hi, thank you for your reply. I had a feeling it may be too much of a task to take on... I just had to ask . but maybe one day when one has enough time to make one would be a great feature for pet lovers. Thanks again Kami for you reply. Totally fine, never know til you ask! And someone may still film this request of course, I just wanted to be transparent.

I know this may be too much to ask. but I just had this thought and idea of a cat or a dog that could sit on the main page where you can feed it and or let it walk across the top of the category once and then it sits at the corner and meows or a puppy woofs? I know this sounds like a very simple thing, but as it is written (having something that is animated, that you can also interact with, that also makes noise) this is a huge ask. I am not saying it's not possible, just wanted to set the expectation that it's very unlikely someone will do this for you.

I double checked many times, what do i do? Let's back up. How do you know that guests cannot make posts? If we start there, we should be able to reverse engineer the cause and provide a solution. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but this is generally the best place to start so we can walk through the process and make sure that we're on the same page — a lot of misunderstandings in troubleshooting occur when the helper and person needing help aren't aligned on terminology and what happens when, so i am trying to avoid that
